Gear: Secondhand Outdoor Gear Resources 2024

Getting secondhand gear is about way more than just making savings. It's the best way to extend the life of outdoor gear and that makes second-hand it the best sustainable choice. As outdoor enthusiast we should be putting the planet first in all the ways we can to protect our beloved outdoor spaces. This is one way be can. And it's getting easier to do so in Switzerland. Here are some secondhand resources you need to know about:

1. 2nd Peak
They've been around since 2020 in Zurich and now also have added a second brick & mortar shop in Bern. They also propose an online shop on their website. The only downside is that their website is still only in German.

2. Transa
A longstanding Swiss name for travel and outdoor adventuring, they are the first Swiss outdoor retailer to offer a secondhand shop online. You can sell your used outdoor equipment on their platform or buy products. Learn more about how to go about it here.

3. Galaxus

Even Galaxus has jumped on the secondhand bandwagon! It's not limited to outdoor gear but they do have an outdoor equipment category.

4. Decathlon

Decathlon have also put in place their "Second Vie" offer. They'll buy back their products from you, recondition it and put it back out to be purchased again by a new owner. They usually have a small in-store section close to check-out but have a wider offer online.
